Christine Mottram

London/ North Carolina/ Washington DC

Hi, I’m Christine. I am an internationally-trained voice, accent and communication coach with a widely acknowledged portfolio in professional actor training and business coaching. I work internationally and have bases in London, North Carolina and the DC area.

My clients range from actors to business professionals, activists, teachers, trans women and anyone who is curious about becoming a more effective and empowered communicator.

My expertise sits particularly in comprehensive voice work, accent and dialect training, presentation and public speaking, as well as specific preparation training for professionals working in theatre, TV and film productions or large scale events. I regularly comment on issues related to voice and communication, particularly on women’s voices in the public sphere.

My formal training and education spans from training and working as an actress in New York City to receiving an MFA in Voice Studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. In addition, I am a certified teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®. My teaching is also influenced by Knight-Thompson Speechwork® and Organic Intelligence®, a mindful approach to the nervous system that helps to reduce stress and build resiliency.

My work experience comprises voice and accent coaching in university actor training programs, including top schools in the United Kingdom, such as ArtsEd, LAMDA and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, private voice and accent coaching with actors who feature in major West End shows and international Film and TV productions, tailored communication workshops with corporate clients, such as Whyte & MacKay, Expedia, Deloitte, IDT and industry associations, as well as private sessions with individuals, such as doctors, business professionals, diplomats and teachers. I work with anyone who needs to use their voice as a professional instrument or who wishes to discover their voice as an instrument to ‘voice what matters’.

My success as a voice and communication coach has its origins in the development of a holistic coaching philosophy that understands and addresses the connection between voice, body and mind. My approach looks beyond traditional patterns of coaching and sees the interplay of personality, emotional environment and physical framework as a central element to achieving long-lasting positive results for voice and communication.

Voice what Matters

I founded Voice what Matters in 2021 to consolidate my various work streams and services. I offer virtual and in-person courses, workshops and private sessions in voice, public speaking, breathing, acting and accents. Voice what Matters integrates BeSpoke Communication, a project I co-founded in 2016 to offer free online coaching content for professionals, actors and private individuals via podcasts. Voice what Matters also links to a YouTube channel in which I discuss and respond to voice, accent and communication questions I receive from clients and leading professionals in the field and is a podcast that looks at the voice and communication as a target for suppression and empowerment in politics, society and entertainment.
