This is the first of 3 videos in which I talk to you about how to find more confidence as a public speaker. Confidence as a public speaker comes down to the 3 P’s: Purpose, Preparation and Presence.
In this video, I’m going to talk to you about Purpose. What is your purpose with your message? To find your purpose, ask yourself: What do you want the audience to think/feel and do as a result of your message?
Honing in on your purpose gives you a guiding light for the other p’s— for how you will prepare and structure the content of your message to your presence when delivering it— and helps you make sure your presence is congruent with your message. It helps you cut out the content that isn’t relevant or that you don’t have time for, and helps you consider your message from your audience’s point of view, which will help you build a stronger rapport with them.
How you find the purpose may not be linear. Sometimes you just have to start the creation process and find out what it is you want to say, but continuing to prime yourself with the question will help you whittle it down to that purpose. Give it a try, let me know how it goes. Subscribe my YouTube channel to get updated when I release Part 2 and 3 of this series (and any future videos!).
